The Pharmacy Council of Ghana has released a summary of disciplinary actions taken in 2024 against pharmaceutical companies and practitioners found in breach of the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act 2013, (Act 857).
The Council affirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of pharmacy practice to protect the public interest.
All practitioners are hereby notified that strict enforcement of the law will continue, and adherence to regulatory standards is mandatory.
A total of 41 disciplinary actions were taken across five regions. The Greater Accra and Ashanti regions saw the highest number of infractions.

Sanctioned Pharmacies
A total of 12 pharmacies faced disciplinary action for various offenses ranging from unethical practices to operating without a license.
1. LIFE DREAM PHARMACY (Ashanti)
- Offense: Unethical and unlawful pharmacy practice injurious to life.
- Sanction: Fined GH₵60,000.00.
2. RX MART PHARMACY (Ashanti)
- Offenses: Operating continuously without pharmacist supervision; Obstructing Law Enforcement and Regulatory Officers.
- Sanction: Business Operating Licence Revoked.
3. KEL-JOHN PHARMACY (Ashanti)
- Offense: Administering injections on the premises.
- Sanction: Fined GH₵30,000.00 (Minimum Penalty Unit; First Offender).
4. ACHIEVERS PHARMACY (Ashanti)
- Offenses: Operating without pharmacist supervision; Sale of restricted drugs from unauthorised premises; Obstructing an inspecting officer; Operating without a licence.
- Sanction: Fined GH₵33,000.00 (Minimum P.U; First Offender).
5. KOSAK PHARMACEUTICAL LTD (Greater Accra)
- Offenses: Stocking and selling unregistered medicines; Selling restricted medicines (Class A & B) to unauthorised persons.
- Sanctions: Fined GH₵42,000.00 (Minimum P.U; First Offender); Ordered to submit product distribution records and a Corrective and Preventive Action Report (CAPA) within 14 days.
6. CAJEK PHARMACY (Ashanti)
- Offenses: Administering injections on premises; Operating with an unregistered staff.
- Sanction: Fined GH₵26,000.00 (Minimum P.U; First Offender).
7. MED IMPACT (Ashanti)
- Offenses: Administering injections on premises; Operating with an unregistered staff.
- Sanction: Fined GH₵26,000.00 (Minimum P.U; First Offender).
8. UNICOM PHARMACY (Greater Accra)
- Offense: Unauthorized supply of restricted drugs to Over-The-Counter Medicine Sellers (OTCMS) facilities.
- Sanction: Fined GH₵15,000.00 (Minimum P.U; First Offender).
9. PHARMATRUST (Greater Accra)
- Offense: Unauthorized supply of restricted drugs to O.T.C.M.S facilities.
- Sanction: Fined GH₵30,000.00 (Minimum P.U; First Offender).
10. MAL-TITI PHARMACY (Greater Accra)
- Offense: Unauthorized supply of restricted drugs to O.T.C.M.S facilities.
- Sanction: Fined GH₵30,000.00 (Minimum P.U; First Offender).
11. EDZIEBA PHARMACY (Central)
- Offenses: Operating without pharmacist supervision; Supply of prescription-only medicines (pethidine) without a prescription; Failure to record pethidine sales in the Dangerous Drug Record Book.
- Sanction: Fined GH₵36,000.00.
12. NABOB PHARMACY (Central)
- Offenses: Operating without pharmacist supervision; Supply of prescription-only medicines (pethidine) without a prescription; Failure to record pethidine sales in the Dangerous Drug Record Book.
- Sanction: Fined GH₵36,000.00.
Sanctioned Over-The-Counter Medicine Sellers (OTCMS)
Thirteen OTCMS practitioners were sanctioned for offenses including the sale of restricted and banned substances.
- JOSHUA OBENG ODAME (Greater Accra): Fined GH₵12,000.00 for stocking Classes A & B medicines and obstructing officers.
- ARAFAT MUSAHi (Ashanti): Fined GH₵15,000.00 for unauthorized supply, sale, and purchase of restricted drugs and stocking injectables.
- RICHARD DANSO (Ashanti): Fined GH₵15,000.00 for stocking injectables and administering infusions.
- WENDY HAMMOND (EXPRESS CHEMIST, Greater Accra): Licence revoked and facility closed for operating an unregistered pharmacy with an OTCMS Licence.
- MR. ALHASSAN HABIB ABUKARI (Northern): Fined GH₵6,000.00 for stocking injectables and prescription-only medicines.
- MR. ADAM IMORO (Northern): Fined GH₵6,000.00 and denied an OTCMS licence for operating without a license and stocking unauthorized medicines.
- MR. SUMANI SUALE (Northern): Fined GH₵6,000.00 for stocking Class A & B medicines.
- MR. ABDULAI ABDUL-RAUF (Northern): Fined GH₵6,000.00 for stocking Class A & B and prescription-only medicines.
- MRS. ALBERTA ESI AHIABLE (Greater Accra): Licence revoked and facility closed for operating an unregistered pharmacy with an OTCMS Licence.
- GEORGE BOATENG (Greater Accra): Fined GH₵55,200.00 for multiple offenses including possession of restricted, psychotropic, and narcotic medicines.
- MR. KWASI GEORGE AMEGAH (Tema): Fined GH₵16,500.00 for stocking and selling Class A & B medicines.
- MS. FAUSTINA AMEGAH AMETEPE (Tema): Licence revoked and facility closed for stocking and selling unregistered, banned, and narcotic medicines.
- MS. FAUSTINA ABA BROWN (Central): Licence suspended for 12 months and fined GH₵9,000.00 for stocking and selling narcotics (Pethidine). She is also required to undergo re-training.
Sanctioned Pharmacists
Nine pharmacists were disciplined, primarily for shirking their responsibilities as superintendent pharmacists.
- PHARM YVETTE SARPONG ASAMOAH (Ashanti): Suspended for three (3) years.
- PHARM NANA AMAPADU MARI (Greater Accra): Fined GH₵12,000 for operating a pharmacy without a license.
- PHARM BEATRICE KUSI (Ashanti): Sanctioned for Professional Misconduct and fined GH₵8,000.00.
- PHARM (DR) RALPH TETTEH-AMLALO (Greater Accra): Sanctioned for Professional Misconduct and fined GH₵6,000.00.
- PHARM KEZIAH ANNAN (Ashanti): Sanctioned for Professional Misconduct and fined GH₵5,000.00.
- PHARM DR KOFI ASAMOA ACHEAMPONG MENSA (Ashanti): Sanctioned for Professional Misconduct and fined GH₵5,000.00.
- PHARM ALFRED KOFI ANNAN (Nabob Pharmacy, Central): Suspended from superintending any pharmacy for 2025 and 2026.
- PHARM IBRAHIM MOHAMMED (Edzieba Pharmacy, Central): Fined GH₵24,000.
- PHARM ALBERT DOE DENYO (Edzieba Pharmacy, Wholesale, Central): Fined GH₵24,000.
Sanctioned Medicine Counter Assistants (MCAs)
Five MCAs faced penalties for misconduct and illegal supply of medicines.
- CONSTANT REUBEN ABBEY (Greater Accra): Fined GH₵3,000.00 for misconduct.
- JANET ASIEDUA AGYEI (Nabob Pharmacy, Central): Fined GH₵3,000 for supplying prescription-only medicine without a prescription.
- MAVIS YANNEY (Nabob Pharmacy, Central): Fined GH₵3,000 for supplying prescription-only medicine without a prescription.
- IRENE ESINAM ACOLATSE (Edzieba Pharmacy, Central): Fined GH₵3,000 for supplying prescription-only medicine without a prescription.
- MS. AMINATU TAHIRU (Greater Accra): Fined GH₵15,000.00 and facility closed for operating without a license and stocking restricted drugs.
Other Sanctioned Practitioners (Nurses)
Two nurses were found administering injections in community pharmacies and have been referred to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for further action.
